2. PFLAG Holiday Potluck & Meeting, Dec 10, 7 pm, Salinas
Please bring your parents/guardians and join the Carmel & Salinas PFLAG group for their annual holiday potluck. Bring a favorite yummy dish to share. 3. Youth Perspectives Contest, KQED
KQED is looking for young people to share their views on one of two subjects: "Coming Out" and "Friday Night." These may take the form of a video, a slideshow, or a brief commentary. Entries for the "Coming Out" theme are due by Dec. 15 and "Friday Night" entries are due by Feb. 8th. The grand prize is an 8 GB iPod Touch, so be sure to sign up! 4. Second Harvest Food Bank Holiday Food Drive
The Diversity Center, the LGBTIQ Community Center of Santa Cruz County, is participating in the Second Harvest Food Bank Holiday Food Drive. Drop by The Diversity Center Monday-Friday 9am to 5pm and donate  a non-perishable food item into our barrel to help out families in need this holiday season! Drive ends on Friday, December 18th. 6. Report on LGBT Youth in Juvenile Courts
The Equity Project is pleased to announce the release of Hidden Injustice, a comprehensive report on the treatment of LGBT youth in the criminal justice system. Despite making up a noticeable percentage (as much as 13%) of youths in detention, LGBT youths who have committed crimes are often not given the same treatment as their heterosexual peers. 7. News: Judy Shepard Comments on the Murder of Mercado
Judy Shepard, the mother of Matthew Shepard, recently released a statement regarding the murder of Jorge Steven Lopez Mercado in Puerto Rico, referring to it as a "brutal hate crime" and expressing sadness that such crimes continue to be perpetrated against members of the LGBT community. 8. News: Federal Court Accepts Challenge of Proposition 8
