Queer Youth Holiday Party, Dec 13, 5:30 pm Dress up as your favorite holiday character, make a potluck dish to share (only if you can), bring a Secret Santa/White elephant gift to exchange (homemade or $7 or less), or just show up! 3. San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus, Dec 19, 7 pm First Congregational Church of Santa Cruz - UCC welcomes the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus for "Home for the Holidays!" -- a Santa Cruz holiday concert to benefit local charities. Reminder: Youth Perspectives Contest, KQED KQED is looking for young people to share their views on one of two subjects: "Coming Out" and "Friday Night." These may take the form of a video, a slideshow, or a brief commentary. Entries for the "Coming Out" theme are due by Dec. 15 and "Friday Night" entries are due by Feb. 8th. Stories Needed For LGBT Youth Documentary Bill Brummel Productions and the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) are creating a documentary film for SPLC's Teaching Tolerance program. They are searching for personal stories of LGBT youth and harassment, bullying, violence and discrimination for a powerful, thought provoking film. Their goal is to craft a story that will help American youth recognize the struggles of their LGBT peers, as well as inspire LGBT students. The film will be shown to around 50,000 middle schools and high schools and will be seen by millions of students. Teaching Tolerance is one of the nation's leading providers of anti-bias resources in print, online, and film and has earned accolades from a variety of organizations, including three Oscar nominations, two Academy Awards, and more than 20 honors from the Educational Press Association of America.Contact info: Jamie Hebert, Bill Brummel Productions, (818) 754-0575. 6. Take Action: World AIDS Day Petition The Religious Action Center (RAC) of Reform Judaism has created a World AIDS Day Petition urging President Obama to provide better information and services to young people regarding HIV/AIDS. News: Campbell Elects 26-year-old Gay Mayor On Tuesday, December 1, 2009, the City of Campbell made history by selecting 26-year-old Evan Low as their new mayor. Evan is now the city's youngest openly gay mayor and the youngest Asian American mayor in the country. Low received the Asian-American Hero Award for Santa Clara County, and, on June 5, 2006, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom honored Evan (months before he was elected to public office) with a proclamation, naming the day "Evan Low Day" in the city and county of San Francisco for his leadership in the greater community. News: John Perez May Be First Openly Gay CA Assembly Speaker "Los Angeles Democratic Assemblyman John Pérez appears to be in line to become the next speaker of the [CA] state Assembly - and the body's first openly gay chief." Pérez, a freshman lawmaker, is chair of the California Assembly Democratic Caucus and formerly worked as a union organizer and most recently as political director for a Southern California local of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union.
